Recessed Lighting Usage Chart

The following information will assist you in choosing a bulb for the right illumination level to meet your needs, and the fixture placement.

Fixture Estimator (room length x width in feet)
Example: 16' x 20' room = 8 fixtures

Recommended use: living rooms, great rooms, kitchen, bedroom, foyer, hallways.

LIGHTING KITCHEN COUNTERS
Position center of fixtures over counter edge. This prevents shadowing and allows light to spill into cabinets.

Recommended use: kitchen, office, bathroom, bedroom.

ARTWORK
Wall-mounted art and photos look best when lighted at an angle of 30 degrees from vertical. Use eyeball or adjustable trims.

COLLECTABLES
Light free-standing objects at an angle of 30 degrees from vertical to prevent light from interfering with line of sight. Add a 2nd light from a different position for greater visual impact.

Recommended use: dining room, living room, great room, bedroom.

BOOKCASES / WALLS
Washing a wall with light visually expands a room, hides imperfections and adds dimension to books and other elements.

Recommended use: living rooms, great rooms, hallways, offices.

WALL GRAZING
Turn rough textures such as brick or stone into dynamic patterns of shadow and light.

Recommended use: fireplaces, stone walls, exterior eaves.
